The late Herold Eggerling began working with hybrid corn in 1942. By 1947 he started developing inbred lines with Holden’s Foundation Seeds, Inc. As a corn breeder Herold developed many vastly used inbreds during a career that spanned over 50 years. Holdens' recognized Herold and his family as being major contributors to the improvements made in hybrid corn for the American farmer.
Herold's three sons: Don, Arlen, and Art have continued the family tradition as leaders in corn breeding and seed corn production. As General Manager of Select Seed Hybrids, Art's son Kevin is the third generation of Eggerlings with deep-rooted dedication to the continued improvement of hybrid seed corn.
